Getting started with Stripe

Note: We're in the process of making some changes to our platform to better serve our customers. If you do not have an Integrations tab, you'll want to follow these steps instead: Client payments: Card processing in SimplePractice.

Stripe is a simple way to accept credit card payments from your clients. Plus, if you have the Client Portal enabled, your clients can log in and make payments directly from the Client Portal.

What payment methods can I accept through Stripe?

Stripe accepts payments from these cards:

  • Visa (credit and debit cards)
  • MasterCard (credit and debit cards)
  • American Express
  • Discover

Setting up your Stripe account

  1. Log into your SimplePractice account.
  2. Click the Integrations link on the left navigation.
  3. Click the Sign up with Stripe button. You will then be directed to the secure SimplePractice registration page on the Stripe website.
    Sign up for Stripe and start accepting payments from clients in your SimplePractice account.
  4. Complete all the fields in the registration form.

Once you complete the Stripe registration, you will be directed back to your SimplePractice account and you can begin accepting credit card payments.


  • Your clients do not need a Stripe account to make a payment.
  • Stripe requires a strong password, so make sure it is difficult to guess and is different from your SimplePractice account password.

Stripe fees

Every payment processor, including Stripe, charges fees. The integration fee for Stripe is 2.95% + $0.30 for each successful charge. However, there are no setup fees, no monthly fees, no card storage fees, and no termination fees.

Accessing your Stripe account

Once your Stripe account is set up, here’s how to access it:

  1. Log into your SimplePractice account.
  2. Go to My Account > Settings.
  3. Click Integrations.
  4. Click the Access your Stripe account button as shown in the image below:

Getting help for your Stripe account

Stripe does offer 24/7 phone and chat support, but you can also contact them via email. Here's how:

  1. Navigate to your Stripe account (see the instructions for Accessing your Stripe account above).
  2. Click the Help & Support link at the top of the Stripe dashboard page.

Canceling your Stripe account

You can cancel your Stripe account at any time. Closing your Stripe account won't prevent transfers from happening, but you will not be able to retrieve any information from your account going forward. Here’s how to cancel your Stripe account:

  1. Navigate to your Stripe account (see the instructions for Accessing your Stripe account above).
  2. Click the Business Settings link on the bottom left.
  3. Click the Data link.
  4. Click Close this Account.
  5. Confirm you want to close your account by entering your password.
  6. Click Confirm.

Note: Once an account is closed, it cannot be undone.
