SimplePractice Release Notes

SimplePractice is constantly evolving as we add functionality to improve your everyday experience. We frequently release product updates, and all of them are aimed at improving your workflows. These releases range from small fixes for one-off scenarios to pieces of bigger projects that we've been building for months.

Tip: To see what's coming next in some of our larger projects, head to our SimplePractice Product Roadmap.

Ultimately, each of these updates gives you more control over your practice and allows you to provide better service to your clients. As of 2019, we wanted to give you a more detailed look into the features we're releasing every day and the behind-the-scenes changes that you may not immediately notice. Check out the information below to learn more:

February 2019

  • Referral Sources Report:
    • This report gives you insight on your referrals, the number of clients you got from each referral, in addition to the total revenue generated from each unique source. Ultimately, this report will give you the actionable knowledge necessary to market your business and grow your professional networks more effectively.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Wiley Treatment Planners:
    • Clinicians can now choose from thousands of pre-written treatment goals, objectives, and interventions organized around the most commonly encountered diagnoses from all 32 Treatment Planners Wiley has available. This integration will allow clinicians to quickly and seamlessly build evidence-based treatment plans to better serve their clients. Learn more about how to use Wiley Treatment Planners in SimplePractice here: Using Wiley Treatment Planners.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Android App version 3.0.2:
    • This update rolled out several known fixes to make the SimplePractice app easier to use and more in line with the SimplePractice web version. For appointments with locked notes, customers can no longer move dates and times. Previously for clients with particularly long names, there were client info visibility issues. These have all been addressed.   (Mobile - Android)

January 2019

  • Accessibility improvements for screen readers:
    • Customers using screen readers can now more effectively use Secure Messaging and certain functions on the calendar fly-out.   (Desktop/Laptop)
  • Structured referrals:
    • This update will allow clinicians to capture referrals in a more structured way. Instead of typing in each referral by hand, you'll be able to choose from a list of referrals that you can add to. This is the first step in creating a referral report.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • View appointments on Client Portal:
    • This update will allow all clients to view appointments on the Client Portal even if online booking is not enabled. Only on the practices that are enabled for online booking can clients cancel appointments.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Android App version 3.0:
    • Overhaul and complete redesign of Google Play App. Updated Client Info/Create page. Updated Calendar and Appointment Detail page. Designed Secure Messaging page so it matches what would look like a text message. Can now easily email and call with the touch of a button within the App.   (Mobile - Android)
  • Added date range filter to Client Overview:
    • This update allows practices to curate, filter, and search through their client chart by date or by type of note. All time filter added post release to view the client chart for the entirety of the time you've seen the client.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Administrative notes:
    • These function just like a sticky note that you’d put on a client’s file. They allow you to leave a note that you, other clinicians, or your administrative staff can view. Schedulers and/or Billers will also be able to view a note or leave their own without having access to the client’s clinical notes, maintaining HIPAA compliance. This feature leads to more streamlined and effective communication within your team. Learn more about using administrative notes here: Using administrative notes in SimplePractice.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Text message in Demographic Form:
    • When clients are filling out the Demographic form on the Client Portal, a check box is now available for them to opt-in to text message reminders for themselves. This is only available if text message reminders are enabled on the SimplePractice account.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Improve Locked out of Account/Forgot Password Flow:
    • New login workflow now gives users clear, step-by-step directions for recovering your password or username. This reduces confusion and creates a more secure login experience.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • Updated Claim Rejection banner:
    • Added the claim rejection Help Center article to the Claim Rejection Banner. We know the rejection messages can be difficult to understand and this article can help explain why a claim may be getting rejected. Learn more about common claim rejections here: Common claim rejections: What they mean and what actions you should take.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
  • iOs App Version 4.0:
    • Redesign of Client Overview Page and Client Form to match iOs format. Can more easily contact client with the click of a button on Info Page.                      (Mobile - iPhone)
  • iOs Telehealth by SimplePractice App Version 1.0.1:
    • Updated components related to third-party integrations. Introduced bug fixes for more seamless video performance.   (Mobile - iPhone)
  • Added Payer and Clinician filter to Unbilled appointments list:
    • On the list of Unbilled Appointments, clinicians and admins can now sort and filter their list by clinician (for group practices) or by Payer. This will have an immediate impact on anyone filing large amounts of claims or batch claim filing. Learn more about batch claim filing here: Creating batch claims.   (Desktop/Laptop/Tablet)
