Important: There are differences between the new SimplePractice Clinician app on IOS and the SimplePractice for Clinicians app on iOS and Android. Can I add or update a client's insurance information on the app?
You can add insurance information on the SimplePractice for Clinicians app for iOS or Android. If you’re using the SimplePractice for Clinicians app for iOS, you’re currently unable to add or update a client’s insurance information.
If needed, you can use the browser version of SimplePractice to set up insurance billing for your clients.
Can I create couple clients and appointments on the mobile app?
You can create couple clients and appointments on all versions of the SimplePractice mobile app. To learn more, see Creating and managing couples on the mobile app.
Note: Group appointments can’t be created on the mobile app.
Can I see earlier progress notes on the app?
On the new SimplePractice mobile app for iOS, you'll be able to see all progress notes in your SimplePractice account. If you’re using the SimplePractice for Clinicians app for iOS or Android, you’ll be able to view all progress notes from the past 30 days.
Note: Chart notes are only available in the browser version of SimplePractice SimplePractice web app. To learn more, see Using chart notes.
Can I share a SimplePractice referral link through the mobile app?
You can use the mobile app to share a SimplePractice referral link to your colleagues. To do this:
- Tap your profile in the upper left corner
- Select Earn free credit
- Tap Share referral link

Can I upload insurance member ID cards on the app?
You can upload insurance member ID cards from the SimplePractice for Clinicians app for iOS or Android, but currently not from the new SimplePractice Clinicians app for iOS.

Can I use Dark Mode?
The SimplePractice mobile app is available in Dark Mode on iOS and Android. This will automatically be applied to your app based on your device’s settings.
On the iOS version of the SimplePractice mobile app, you also have the option to enable the dark icon for your app. To do so:
- Tap your profile in the upper left corner
- Select Settings
- Under System, toggle Use dark icon on
Can practice billers, practice schedulers, supervisors, and practice managers use the app?
The mobile app is only intended for clinicians. Team members without a clinician role won’t be able to sign in to the app.
If I delete the app, will I lose all my data?
When you delete the app, no data or information will be lost. You can re-download the app anytime and sign in to your account to continue accessing SimplePractice.
Is the away message for Secure Messaging feature available on the mobile app?
You can only enable, disable, and customize your away message for Secure Messaging on the browser version of SimplePractice. If your away message for Secure Messaging is enabled, a banner will appear to indicate this in the Messages tab of the mobile app.

How do I download the SimplePractice mobile app?
The SimplePractice mobile app is available on iOS in the App Store and on Android in the Google Play Store. We’ll include the steps for each of these below:
- Downloading the SimplePractice mobile app on iOS

Downloading the SimplePractice mobile app on iOS
To download the SimplePractice mobile app app on iOS:
- Open the App Store
- Tap the search icon in the lower bottom right
- Search for SimplePractice Clinician app
- To download our older version of the app, you can search for SimplePractice for Clinicians instead
- Find the correct app
- Tap Get if you're downloading the app for the first time, or tap the download icon if you're redownloading the app
- The icon will show a loading circle and once installed the icon will change to
- Tap OPEN directly from the App Store or navigate back to your Home Screen and tap the app icon
Downloading the SimplePractice mobile app on Android
To download the SimplePractice mobile app on Android:
- Open the Google Play Store
- Tap the search bar at the top
- Search for SimplePractice for Clinicians
- Find the correct app
- Tap Install next to the app listing
- Once the download is complete, click Open
- Tap Open directly from the Play Store or navigate back to your home screen and tap the app icon
What can I do if the calendar isn't updating when a client cancels?
Here's what to try first to fix this issue:
- Logging out and back into your SimplePractice mobile app
- Perform a security checkup

You can also check that you have:

What should I do if the app is running slowly?
If your app is running slowly, first try:
- Logging out and back into your SimplePractice mobile app
- Performing a security checkup

What happens to my schedule when I'm traveling?
By default, your schedule will reflect your set practice’s time zone as set in the browser version of SimplePractice.
If you’re traveling and would like your schedule to reflect your device’s time zone, you can toggle this in all versions of the SimplePractice mobile app:
- Tap your profile in the upper left corner
- Select Settings
- Toggle Use practice time zone off
Can I dictate notes into the mobile app?
While you can use iOS or other third party features to dictate notes in the mobile app, we don’t recommend using any software to process PHI without first verifying that it’s HIPAA compliant, and signing a BAA with the software company.
Can I print documents on the iOS app with AirPrint?
You can wirelessly print documents directly from your iPhone or iPad to an AirPrint enabled printer. This includes invoices, files, and other documents you can view in the mobile app. To do this:
- View the document in question
- Tap the share icon at the bottom left
- Select Print
- Choose the Printer for the document, the number of copies and which pages you want to print
- Tap Print in the upper right

Can I use a stylus to write notes on the app?
You can use a stylus (i.e. Apple Pencil) or a third-party keyboard to write notes in the mobile app.
Important: To protect your privacy, make sure the third-party keyboard you use doesn't have full access to your data.
To check what level of access your keyboard has on iOS:
- Navigate to Settings > General > Keyboard
- Select Keyboards > [Name of keyboard]
- Make sure that Allow Full Access is switched off
- If you choose to use a third-party app, we recommend confirming how the app uses your data
To use an Apple Pencil to handwrite notes on a tablet, your device must be updated to the latest version. With Apple Pencil, you can handwrite your notes into the text box, and your device will transcribe the note into text formatting.
Can I use the iOS Live Text feature on the iPhone app?
With iOS 15, iPadOS 15.5, or later, you can use your camera to scan or take a photo of handwritten notes, and transfer them into text to enter in the SimplePractice mobile app.
If you’re a clinician who prefers to handwrite notes during a session, this can help you enter those notes into SimplePractice. For more information on Live Text, see Copy and translate text from photos on your iPhone or iPad.
Important: By using the native iOS Live Text feature, you recognize that you’re responsible for complying with all applicable privacy and data protection laws.
Enabling and disabling Live Text
To enable Live Text on your iPhone or iPad:
- Open Settings
- Select General > Language & Region
- Toggle Live Text on
Turning Live Text on will enable a toggle for Show Detected Text in Settings > Camera. To set up this feature, navigate to Settings > Camera and toggle on Show Detected Text.
Note: When Live Text is turned off, the Show Detected Text option won’t appear under Settings > Camera. Both Live Text and Show Detected Text will need to be toggled on to enable this feature.
Copying text in a photo or image
To copy text in a photo or image:
- Open the Photos app
- Select a photo
- Touch and hold a word or group of words
- Move the grab points to adjust the selection, as needed
- To select all of the text in the photo, tap Select All
- Select Copy
- To select all of the text in the photo, tap Select All
After copying the text, you can paste it in your SimplePractice account.
Important: Copied text isn’t stored anywhere, and will be deleted as soon as any new text is copied.
Why are there two SimplePractice clinician apps on iOS?
We recently began rolling out a new version of the mobile app for iOS users, which is named SimplePractice Clinician app in the App Store. This version of the app has updated features, an improved user interface and is fully compatible with iPads.
Additionally, the older version of the iOS app, SimplePractice for Clinicians, is still available in the App Store while we complete the roll out of the new version of the app.
