Why apt. reminders sending to emergency contacts?

I went to send my session reminders today and it automatically prompted me to send them to not only my client but also their emergency contact. The boxes to send to both where already pre-checked, so I have to uncheck the emergency contacts each time. This feels like a very unnecessary and unwanted feature and potentially a breach of confidentiality.

  We've had the same problem--huge breach of HIPAA--this is a new issue with some update to Simple Practice. Please provide a response to this serious issue. It's happened to us twice, two separate clients this past week!
