Additional ICD-10 Codes
AnsweredI'm trying to create a diagnosis and treatment plan for a new patient, however am not finding the appropriate ICD-10 codes to do so in the drop-down list when I search. At the moment, I'm looking for hearing loss-related codes, in this case likely H90.5, unspecified sensorineural hearing loss. Is there an additional way to find the appropriate codes?
Thanks!

I'm going to forward this request over for ICD-10 code "H90.5-Unspecified sensorineural hearing loss" as well as "H90- Conductive hearing loss, bilateral" to our Product Specialist to get these codes added to our system and we'll let you know if we need anything else from you in the meantime. If there are any additional codes you need, please let me know so we can get them added for you.

Hi Katrina,
Great question. We have ICD-10 codes in SimplePractice now because that's what insurances currently accept. Our goal at SimplePractice is always to get you paid.
The DSM-V translates all DSM diagnosis codes into ICD-10 codes in a reference table in the back of the DSM-V. I'd recommend using this to match up DSM diagnoses with ICD-10 diagnoses!
For example, I see that F10.10 is listed as "Alcohol Abuse, uncomplicated"
If there are ever any ICD-10 codes that you find are out-of-date or unbillable, please reach out to us so we can get them updated- we need you to get paid for the hard work that you do! : )

Hi Katrina,
Good eye!
I can understand how odd it must have been receiving that scrub error for a non-billable code. I'm currently seeing that the correct, billable code according to ICD10data.com is F17.200- Nicotine dependence, unspecified, uncomplicated.I'm going to forward this to our Product Lead to get this changed for you. Please keep in mind it may take a couple of days for this new code to take effect, but if there's anything I can help with in the meantime, please let me know : )

Hi Carly and Dawn, currently in SimplePractice we have only ICD-10 codes to ensure that our customers are being reimbursed by insurance payers. The DSM-V translates all DSM diagnosis codes into ICD-10 codes in a reference table in the back of the DSM-V- you can use this to match up DSM diagnoses with ICD-10 diagnoses!

Hi there!
I need the updated DSM-V codes for Substance Use Disorders. The codes I am seeing only show the old dependence/abuse/uncomplicated codes.
I need mild, moderate, severe and the remission codes
For example,
F10.11 Alcohol Use Disorder, Mild, in early remission
looking for F10.10 through F19.21
Thanks!!

Hi John - I've created a help request on your behalf so a member of our team can reach out to you regarding the ICD-10 Codes you requested. However, from my preliminary search, I did find the two you mentioned: F10.10 and F19.21. We will be in touch about the remaining codes in the range.

SP support, please add the following diagnoses and codes:
z63.4 uncomplicated grief - it is inaccurately titled as disappearance and death of family member;
z63.791 problem with sibling relationship - it is inaccurately titled as sibling rivalryAnd I found z63.72 alcoholism or drug addiction in the family as an option in SP but this doesn’t exist in DSM5 so it should be deleted
Will SP finish combing thru the DSM5 to finish inputting all diagnoses so that clinicians have the ability to accurately assign what applies to clients regardless if they are billable by insurance?
**************
I received a response from SP, saying they will not add / correct these Z codes. I'm highly dissatisfied with this. A huge negative to paying for and using SP. If it weren't for me in a group practice who uses SP, I would cancel and go elsewhere.

I need the following list of codes added to the short list available. It directs me to ask here for the codes needed. Thanks
Please add the following codes:
F06.31 Mood Disorder due to Medical Condition
F34.1 Persisten Depressive Disorder
F40.10 Social Anxiety Disorder
F41.0 Panic Disorder
F42 Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
F60.0, F60.81, F60.7 Personality Disorders
Z63.8 High expressed emotional level within family
Z63.4 Uncomplicated Bereavement
Z56.9 Other problem related to employment
Z60.0 Phase of Life Problem
Z71.9 Other counseling or consultation
Z91.49 Other personal history of psychological trauma
One final question/issue: With Major Depressive Disorder there is only one choice with a specifier. Not all are the same and require more specific coding such as F32.0, F32.1, F32.2 etc. How do you change the specifier?

Patricia, Rachel and others, this issue has me super aggravated with SP’s program. I’d research leaving if I were a PP. I pressed SP on the matter and here is the long response as to our options:
“Talia (SimplePractice Customer Success)
Jun 26, 2020, 1:09 PM PDTWe currently use the ICD-10 diagnosis descriptions from CMS.gov since they frequently keep their list updated.
If you would like to have a code added to this list, please provide the ICD-10 code and its description. Once I receive those from you, I'll verify this and add it to our system if it is a billable code.
I checked with a colleague to confirm and we are no longer adding non-billable diagnosis to our platform.
However, I do have some alternate workflows you can use to add these diagnosis to your client's file. You can add a chart note to denote the DSM-5 description. Here is a great guide on chart notes: Using chart notes.
You can also create your own Treatment Plan template. Creating a custom Template would allow you to make these diagnosis an option in your practice. Here is a helpful guide on creating custom templates for Treatment Plans: Adding assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans.
If you are using Superbills in your practice, they do auto-populate ICD-10 codes. If you would like to edit this so that the diagnosis is not printed on the Superbill, here is a helpful guide on that: Removing a diagnosis description on a superbill.
I understand your practice's need for DSM-5 diagnosis. I have brought this to the attention of our Product Specialists team and I encourage you to add it to our Ideas and Suggestions board.
