How to separate couple from each of their individual sessions
AnsweredI had a first session with an individual and entered them as the client. I realized it was best to do couple's counseling so I did a session with the wife and entered her as an individual. Now, I'm meeting with both of them together and wanted to keep their sessions as a couple separate from each individual file. How would I do that? What is best practice? Or do I just choose one of them and make that the couple? Feeling confused about how to proceed. Thanks!

Hi there, Carrie.
I hope your Wednesday has been great so far. I'd be happy to help you get this couple's session scheduled.
If I'm understanding correctly (and please let me know if I'm not!) you are wanting to schedule this appointment as a "couples" sessions without it being attached to the wife's individual profile.
When a couple's session is scheduled, you have the opportunity to choose which client is the primary for the appointment. The primary client will be billed for the session, and both clients will have progress notes that need to be completed. This means that each client's profile will be attached to the couples session so you can accurately record the progress note and billing. You can read more about how to schedule a couples appointment here: Creating couples appointments.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this, Carrie. I'm happy to help.

We have a client at our group that sees 1 counselor for Couples and now wants to start individual. Do we need to a new profile for her under the individual therapist? I found out if I enter my note for the appt under her current file set up the other counselor can view it even when the appt was set up under my name as a counselor.
We did a test case note. Is there a work around on this or do we have to open another file for her under her name with me being her individual therapist?

Hi Kathleen,
We're actually due to release our Enhanced Management for Couple Clients very soon. Depending on how you'd like to see this client's documentation displayed, it may be best for you to create a separate file rather than utilize this feature enhancement.
The Enhanced Client Management for Couples will allow you to create an individual client file, in addition to a couples client file that are separate, but linked. However, when you create the couples client from existing individual client files, the previous notes and documentation logged for each client will remain in their respective individual client files. This means that the client's previous couples session notes and documentation will appear in the individual client file you'll be working out of; while, only future couples sessions will be documented under the couples client file, which the other therapist will be working out of.
The only way you can separate previously held couples session notes from the individual session notes you intend on documenting, is by creating another separate client. Once you've done this, the Account Owner can restrict the other clinician from having access to this new client file.
Here is more information on our upcoming Enhanced Client Management for Couples feature.
