I agree!  This is an unnecessary date time stamp.  It is causing our payor to be confused about the date and time of service the service date and time is already listed in the upper right hand corner.  This added information caused confusion and delays in our reimbursements!

So I was looking in here because I want to create a section for "start time:    End time:      Virtual address if applicable"  and I want it at the top of the note I usually use which is standard progress note.  I see where I can add at the bottom but how do I add at the top?  I guess a separate box for each is the way I would have to go although if possible they could all be in the same box.  The time stamp in the upper right when I am looking at it is a general idea based on when the appointment was scheduled to start and then by how many minutes we selected will be the end time.   For insurance we need the time it IS started to the exact minute, same for end.  The part about the time at the bottom with signature confused me.  Is it just the time that you signed the note or does it say the time you first started the note?

So if I want to type up my written case notes from the last couple years so they are contained in simplepractice, I cannot edit the time stamp to reflect the date of session?

Is there any workaround for this?

Hi Alicia, there is not currently a way to remove this information from the Progress Note printed layout. You can vote for the idea at simplepractice.uservoice.com! - Gillian

I'm happy to say that we are planning to update the print layout of Progress Notes in 2020. Thank you for providing your insights.

My note is still showing the date and time on the bottom of the page.  When will that update be done?

I am concerned my progress notes do not date and time stamp the actual start and finish time of the session (other than the preprinted, ie) 1:00 - 1:50 pm.) Can someone tell me how to ensure this is done in case of an audit?

Hi Louise and Susanne, we actually just released a feature enhancement that allows you to note the exact duration of an appointment. You can do this by clicking on the appointment from your Calendar and editing the start time and entering the duration in minutes, or you can do this from your client's Overview page by clicking on the relevant Appointment > Edit Date & Time. The date and time stamp of the signature doesn't have anything to do with the time the appointment begun, or ended, it only records the time you completed and signed the Progress Note for the appointment. Hope that helps clarify! Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Hi Sylvia, the date and time stamp for when the note was created, locked and signed will always appear as a footer on the downloaded note. In order for a valid electronic signature to appear, these details must be included. This is required information in case of audits, or court mandated release of records.

Hi Tali, there's no way to adjust the timestamp for the date the note was signed, but you can type out an explanation at the start of the progress note indicating that you wrote the note on an earlier date.
