Hi Ashley, I'd be happy to help. While we can't advise as to which CPT code to bill for - we recommend reaching out to the payer directly for billing help - you can schedule a family session by adding each family member to the calendar individually in the same time slot.

But then will you have to do a separate note for each person?

Hi Kristine, yes, if each family member is scheduled in the same time slot individually, you'll just want to copy and paste your family session note into each family member's Progress Note for that session.

What CPT code would I use if we're doing parent coaching without the client?

What about just using one client and coding it as 90847 (family/ conjoint) only under that client? For example a minor client coming in with a parent for half individual/ half family session.

What is the CPT code if child is not present, only both parents?

Hi everyone, we recommend reaching out to the payer directly to ascertain which CPT code is best to use for which type of session.

I would like to do a family session for an existing client.  The family member is not a client, but is a contact.  I have no reason to make the family member a client and would not bill for them, they are attending a session for my client.  If I just send an email reminder to the family member can they join the session in addition to the client can they both join?

This is from the telehealth  FAQ, but does not address 2 people joining but only one is a client. -  Up to two clients can join the same Telehealth video call, which allows for group sessions of up to 3 people (1 clinician and 2 clients). Each client can join the video call through the email reminder link.

See Getting started with Telehealth for more information on holding group Telehealth sessions.

Hi Elizabeth, to answer your question, yes. Anyone with a link to the Telehealth session can join by clicking the link. Each Telehealth appointment generates a unique link, which can be shared manually with anyone. You can also enable email reminders for the Contact in order to get those links automatically sent to the Contact.

Has this ever been fixed? It's cumbersome to have to rely on a workaround of creating separate sessions and cutting and pasting progress notes. Is there now, or going to be, a way to schedule family sessions without a bunch of individual sessions on the calendar?

I'd very very interested in an answer to Helena Turner's question from 10 months ago.
