What do you use for an endpoint?
Answered

I am trying to register for an NPI with the NPPES website and they want me to give them an 'endpoint' or a place where PHI that is transmitted to me by other professionals is received and stored securely. Is this supposed to be an email or a web address? What are other clinicians on SimplePractice using? I would appreciate any help in understanding this process.

Hi Elina, we don't currently offer a feature specifically to enable other professionals to securely send files that include PHI. We do offer a feature that enables clients to upload files securely through the Client Portal, and some clinicians using SimplePractice have added other professionals as clients in their account to enable them to transfer files securely. I'll leave this thread open for other SimplePractice community members to help with your question.

    Hi Charlotte,

I just ran into this same thing today as I was updating my info in the NPI Registry. I realized when I looked closer at the page that although there are red stars that make them look like they are required, up above, it says putting in Endpoint info is optional. So I just kept it blank and was able to submit it as I went all the way through to the end. Also, I had a question I emailed them and they unexpectedly called me within a couple hours to help me figure it out and walk me through it. Great office to work with! Anyhow, I hope that helps!

The key to skipping this step is to just hit "next" instead of "save and return to main page" so that it doesn't give the warning dialog box that the fields are required.
