How to create session/progress notes for established Clients?
AnsweredHello!
I was wondering if anyone know how to create session and/or progress note for clients that are being added manually to the system. I want to convert my paper progress notes to digital notes.

Hi Floanna, I'd be happy to help with this. Because a Progress Note currently needs to be associated with an appointment in SimplePractice, we don't recommend going back and entering past Progress Notes when you're getting started with SimplePractice. Many of our customers choose to scan paper progress notes in bulk, then upload them to SimplePractice for secure storage. Under My Account > Settings > Business Documents, you can upload a ZIP file with all of your past scanned notes.

Hi Gillian,
What about current clients with appointments in SimplePractice. i have one client I like to use paper notes with, because we do a lot of CBT (cost/benefit analysis, evaluating thoughts...) together on paper. I don't want to have to recreate this on a digital note. Is there a way that can just be photographed and uploaded, but still show up under notes in the client overview?
Thank you,
Lindsay

Hi Lindsay, you can easily attach a scanned file to a Progress Note. To do so, open the Progress Note, and click +Attachment. Then, you upload a document from your computer's files to attach to the note.
Additionally, you can use the SimplePractice mobile app to quickly snap a photo of your paper note and attach it to the appointment. To do so, open the Progress Note using your SimplePractice mobile app and tap the + button. Then, select "Take photo" and use your phone's camera to take a picture of the note to upload to the appointment note. The photo will not be saved to your phone.

I created several customized forms in my Notes & Forms section and want to use them for client files (i.e., Progress Notes, MSE, TX Plans, etc.) vs. the SP standard forms. How do I retrieve those documents and apply to a client's file when I'm about to add a Progress Note--for example. Only SP's "Chart Note" is in the drop down menu. How do I get my forms to be options in that drop down menu?

Hi Gail - It sounds like you might have the Essential Plan. On the Essential Plan, customized Progress Notes are not available. If you'd like to learn more about our various plans, please refer to our subscription plan page, here: https://www.simplepractice.com/pricing .
