    Hi Valerie,

I hope all is well. I'm happy to advise on that.

Yes, it is certainly possible for one parent to use their sole email to manage the Client Portals of multiple clients. This would not require de-activating the Client Portal for the first client or contact.

When adding the contact information for the contact of the second child, it is important to use the search function to find the already existing contact. Once found, they can be assigned to that 2nd minor.

If a new contact is added (as opposed to selecting the existing contact in the system), this could result in an "Email Taken" error.

Please give our Enhanced Client Management for Minors guide a review for a more comprehensive overview of these features: Enhanced Client Management for Minors.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're happy to help.

    Hi Karen,

I hope you are having a nice day. I would be happy to help.

Recently, a new feature called Enhanced Client Management: for Minors was added to your SimplePractice account. This allows you to enter the guardian of a minor child into the Contacts tab. Within the Contacts tab you will have the ability to assign billing responsibilities, Client Portal access and appointment reminders to the minor child's Contacts.

To do this, please navigate to the Client Overview page > Edit > Contacts tab. To add a contact, click +Add Contact. A list of existing clients will appear, if the parent is not an existing client click +New Contact. To manage the parent's permissions, click Manage and select the permission you would like to revise. For more information regarding managing your minor clients, please click here: Enhanced Client Management for Minors.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions, and I’ll be glad to assist you.

I have a parent who is a client with two minor children who are also clients.  When I add the parent as the contact and try to set up the portal for the parent, it states it is already in use and I have to disable access for the parents own portal to use the address for the child.  What am I doing wrong?

Hi Shannon, happy to help. Instead of adding the parent as a Contact, you can link the existing parent's Client profile to their children's profiles.

Hi--I'm still confused. The parents are work with are not also clients, and my minor clients do not give me their email addresses or don't have email addresses. The system requires that I add an email address for the minor client, so I add a parent email address, which is my only option as far as I can tell, and then it won't let me duplicate that email address when I add the parent as a contact, so I have to leave that blank, which means when I send the parent an email through the portal, it will be addressed to the child ("Dear So-and-so") and be sent as if to the child, not the parent. None of the answers above seem to address this. Please advise. Thank you.

I too am struggling with this as then Ive had numerous 'contacts' not able to fill in demographic/contact information for the minor in the portal. Those options aren't "clickable" in the portal..?

    Hi everyone,

When working with minor clients, here's how you can set up their profiles so you can share documentation with the contact:

    1. In the blue header of your SimplePractice account, click +Create > +Create Client.
    2. Select Minor.
    3. If the minor does not have their own email address, leave the Email Address field blank.

    4. After completing the relevant information for the minor, click the Contact tab.
    5. If the contact already has a profile in your account, click Add Existing Client or Contact beneath the Contact's First Name field > search for the existing person > click Select.

    6. If the contact does not yet have a profile in your account, add the contact's information including the Contact's Email Address.
    7. Review and complete the information as needed.
    8. Click Create & Continue to send documentation or return to the client's profile.

It seems that the minor email is now a required field. Is there a way to bypass this?

Is there any way to bypass the required email for a minor?   Unless they are adolescents, emails are not used for younger children.

I'm having the same problem-the minor email is a required field-the child doesn't have an email address but if I put in the parents address, then they are kicked out of portal access as the email is already in use!
