Hi,

I am courtesy billing for my clients. I have several claims that I submitted that came back as ACCEPTED Entity acknowledges receipt of claim/encounter. NOTE:This code requires use of a Entity code(20).

I'm confused by this, has it been accepted or does it require an Entity code???

    Hi Patrice, I'd be happy to help. The "Entity acknowledges receipt of claim/encounter. NOTE:This code requires use of a Entity code(20)" is an internal status assigned by the payer to the claim. It doesn't require any further action on your part. The Accepted status is the important part, and means that you can expect to receive reimbursement for these claims per your contract with the insurance payer.

    I don't remember exactly how long it took but I will assume that because I don't remember that it wasn't too long!

    Thanks for chiming in, Patrice. Ben, payers vary in terms of how quickly they process and pay claims, so we aren't typically able to provide an estimate of when you'll get paid. However, the Accepted status means that the claim will be paid soon.

    Hello Gillian, I too am getting the Entity code 20 for lots of claims, and many of them have been submitted as far back as 21 days ago whereas they were paid in 2-4 days before I started using SP. Do you have any info on this situation?

    Hi Elena - If the claim's status reads "Accepted" then that means it was processed and submitted to the payer successfully. The Entity Code 20 note doesn't necessarily mean you have to change anything in order for the claim to be processed correctly. Here is more on Checking a claim status: The different phases of an insurance claim.

    Claims' statuses won't change past "Accepted" unless you're enrolled in Payment Reports, or add a manual insurance payment. If you were paid for a claim prior to your Payment Report getting accepted by the insurance payer, you'll want to add a manual insurance payment for these sessions. Here is more on Adding an insurance payment
