That code doesn't reimburse for any additional time beyond 62 minutes though.

Correct, but that is the correct code.

    Lydia,

I use 90837 for first 60 min and then I add 90832 for next 30 min.

    Lydia,

We use 90837 and then 99354 (which is for a prolonged service that lasts a minimum of 30 mins).

    Hope that helps

Hi Everyone - Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with billing for 90 minute sessions!

As has been said before, there's no specific CPT Code for 90 minute Psychotherapy. I looked into what the APA recommends in regards to billing for longer services, linked here: Psychotherapy Services FAQs. They recommend using the 60 minute Psychotherapy 90837 at least, but ultimately they advise clinicians to consult with the insurance payer they're billing.

In SimplePractice, you can use add-on codes, so multiple CPT codes can be used for the same appointment. You can find instructions for this here: Adding Multiple CPT Codes to an Appointment

This SimplePractice blog post describes the Top Psychotherapy CPT Codes Billed in 2019including add-on codes.
