Patient Identification Number

Are clients assigned a patient identification number by simple practice.  If so, where is this information located.  I am submitting billing directly to insurance companies and need a patient identification number.

    No they do not assign their own. For our practice we created one for each person and put the number next to their last name just make sure when creating the claim you delete the number next to their last name and put it into the bottom of the claim in box #26.

    for some reason today I am not able to put anything into this box and I have never had that trouble before.... so hope this helps.

    I am no able to put anything in Box #26 for patient account number. Even when I put the ID number in their profile under billing and additional fields it is not auto populating or allowing me to manually enter it as I have always done. Can any one tell me why?

    Hi Everyone - To clarify, Box 26, the Patient Account Number, has never been a required field for insurance billing through SimplePractice. However, we did previously allow customers to add it in manually, or enter it in their clients' Billing and Insurance > Show Additional Claims Fields > Client Account Number form field. We recently disabled this functionality because, while we don't automatically assign a number to each client you bill insurance for, our clearinghouse does. In the previous functionality, they'd change any number anyways to reflect their records, prior to sending the claim to the insurance payer for processing.

    If the clearinghouse assigns them- how do we access these?

    I have to submit certain claims via paper due to gaps in what simple practice can do and I cannot find it.

    Same Q as Mikayla. I am having to complete an Aetna Medical Reimbursement Form for a client, and it asks for a Patient Account Number. I don't want this to not match what the clearinghouse uses. What do I do?

    I am experiencing the same thing at the moment.  Can we access the account # the clearing house is assigning.  And if they are assigning everyone a number, than why are the insurance companies rejecting claims that don't have one?

    Same issue here - I'm trying to fill out an Aetna form for a client to get reimbursed out of network.  Where can I locate/create/note their "Patient Account Number"?

    It seems that SP is not going to address this issue with us.  I have created my own # for each client.
