Client location
AnsweredHi,
For some reason the system is not letting me access the Ideas and Suggestions area, so I am posting this suggestion here: Is there a way for clients to officially report their physical location when they click to start a telehealth session? It could be a pop up option of the client's home address or GPS location that they could just click to confirm, or have the option to choose to enter an alternate location. The system could either post this to the video display under the client's name, or perhaps just notify the therapist if they choose a location different from their main address. This location could even be automatically recorded as part of the session note.
Therapists are only allowed to practice in the state we are licensed in, and the session legally "takes place" in the location of the client during the session. My concern is that sometimes clients don't realize they can't just log into their session if they are away in another state. Today my client logged in for his regular session time, and in the video it looked like a new location, so I asked where he was. He was on vacation out of state and had not realized this was a problem. I informed him and did not hold session. But I realized there is a lot of potential for therapists to accidentally practice in a state where they are not licensed if clients are traveling and do not inform us.
Seems like this could be an easy fix though if this feature were added.
Thank you for your consideration.

Hi Michele - Thank you for bringing this to our attention!
I'm happy to pass your comments on to our Product Team. However, the best way to get this feature enhancement considered would be by adding it to our Ideas and Suggestions Board. This way, other customers can join in on the conversation, upvote and comment on your post.
I know you said you couldn't access the Ideas and Suggestions Board, there are a few reasons I suspect this may be happening:
- You're using an outdated Operating System, or your browser isn't set up correctly: Updating your browser to the latest version.
- You need to clear your cache: Clearing your browser cache.
- You're not logged into your SimplePractice account when accessing the Ideas and Suggestions Board
Please follow these directions and try to add your idea one more time.
