tracking finances in preparation for taxes
AnsweredHello,
I've decided to dive deep into systems for keeping my financial records accountable in preparation for taxes. I'm wondering about what others are doing to double check where each penny is going. Any ideas that are available either in simple practice or other areas? Any feedback will be helpful.
Sincerely,
Dana Hicks LCMHCS

Hi Dana and Tracy,
I wanted to share a couple of features in SimplePractice that can help with your accounting:
- The Billing > Export Transactions page allows you to export your financial transactions into either a Quickbooks or CSV report.
- The Reports > [Year] Tax Report includes financial information to help you with your tax preparation.
If you have any additional financial reporting requests that you don't find available on the Reports page, I invite you to add these ideas to our Ideas and Suggestions board. Posting on this board means that members of our Product Team, as well as all members of our Community, have transparent access to review your suggestion. This board is one of our most important resources for understanding which features will have the most value for our community.
If you're curious, here's more information about how a customer idea can become a SimplePractice feature: Customer feedback: How a customer idea can become a feature in SimplePractice.

Hi Danielle, go to Billing > Card Transactions, widen the date range for this year, then click the CSV or Excel button to the top right to download a report of your Card Transactions. You can then calculate all the Stripe fees for the year. You can also wait until the Tax Report for 2020 is calculated, this Report will have a number for the exact amount of Stripe fees incurred in the last year.

Hi Sarah and Traci, to export all your transactions, including insurance payments, cash, check, manual credit card and Stripe transactions, go to the Billing tab to the left of your account, then hit Export Transactions to your right. If you'd like to export Stripe transactions and see the Stripe fees collected for each payment, click the Card Transactions button instead. Here's a screenshot:
