Hi Jodi - I'd recommend checking this post on our Ideas and Suggestions Board periodically for updates: https://simplepractice.uservoice.com/forums/918553-simplepractice-feedback/suggestions/36554227-signing-notes-and-treatment-plans . As you know, we're working on this feature and collecting feedback from customers as we build it out. I don't have a specific ETA for you, but we'll be updating our Ideas and Suggestions Board as soon as we have more information for you. Thanks!

The post in Ideas and Suggestions is over 2 years old. How long do you guys need to collect feedback???

Also, my question is "How are you guys getting treatment plan signatures for your telehealth clients?"

This post shouldn't be marked as answered.

I too share in this concern.  I have spent hours today trying to figure this out.

    Hi Jodi and Teressa,

Currently there isn't a way to get electronic signatures from clients on Treatment Plans you've filled out for them. To have clients sign a Treatment Plan by hand and send it to you through the Client Portal, you'll want to click on it from their Overview page > hit Options in the top right corner > Download, then re-upload it to their Overview page by hitting the Upload button to the top right. Next, go to your Settings > Client Portal > check the box to "Allow Clients to Upload Documents." Now you can go to the client's file and click the Share button to send the uploaded PDF document through the Client Portal. In the email, instruct the client to print the PDF Treatment Plan, add their wet signature to it, scan it back to their computer and upload it in the Client Uploads box of their Client Portal > Documents tab. Here's more on enabling Client Uploads: https://support.simplepractice.com/hc/en-us/articles/207925883-Setting-up-the-Client-Portal#howtoallow

Jodi - The "Answered" status on Community Forum posts is an internal one we use to make sure that someone has responded to the original post. It doesn't prevent other customers from commenting, or continuing the the discussion on this thread. The "Planned" status on the Ideas and Suggestions Board, on the other hand, was updated on July 24th, 2020. Despite the post being made on July 10,2018, we just started to plan this feature enhancement this July.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding this process, or would like me to clarify any of my points!

Is there an update on when this feature will come? 1 month? 3 months? 6 months? 1 year?

Hi Jodi, I'm unable to give you an exact release date, but we're very aware of the need for this feature and have made it a priority in our Product Roadmap development.

    Hi Ruth!

Are you guys also working on making it so therapists can sign the treatment plan also? In Arizona it is required that the therapist and client sign the tx plan.

    Jodi and Teressa,

I screenshare tx plan while the client is on teletherapy because you can open up a second internet browser and open up a second simplepracte. I review it in session and then I created a form in SimplePractice called tx plan addendum. I tell the client I am sending it to them and they receive  an email with the SimplePractice link which takes them to the portal and they sign the addendum.

My only problem is I still have to print them out and sign it because Arizona requires the therapist to sign also.

Hi Ashlea, we're aware of the Arizona requirement and I can assure you we're working on this enhancement right now! When I have more information, I'll be updating this feature request status, here: https://simplepractice.uservoice.com/forums/918553-simplepractice-feedback/suggestions/36554227-signing-notes-and-treatment-plans . Thank you for your patience as we build this feature out!

    Hi Ruth,

I just wanted to add to this thread... I am also in Arizona and it is required to have the therapist signature on the informed consent documentation too (not just the client's).  As SP works on signatures for treatment plans, I highly suggest also making therapists able to sign intake documents too.  I've placed the same comment on the link you provided.

    Thank you!

Thanks for adding that Christina, definitely something to consider in future updates. I'll also bring this up in our next Product Team meeting.

    Any ETA on this feature?

My plan, for several months now, is to change to a different EHR in December if this feature isn't available or at least due to roll out very soon. "We're working on this" has been SP's refrain for too long.

The time is now! :-) This issue is a real problem, especially now with all of our clients on Telehealth. I was just audited and was not able to pass this question. Even with the work-around as described, some of the population we work with do not have a printer/scanner. These are NATIONAL MEDICAID requirements.

Treatment plans need to be able to be signed.

If the client is a minor, please make the option available for the parent/guardian to sign the plan.

    Thank you!

ARRGGGHHHHH HOW LONG SP? Why does it take so long to decide to provide something that is obviously needed?

Hi Everyone, our Product Team is working hard on finding the best way to incorporate Treatment Plan signatures for clients and clinicians into our platform. We're aware of the insurance requirements and how popular this feature enhancement is amongst our customers, but there are many considerations to take into account as we build out this feature. We want to ensure that the final product is compliant with all insurance requirements and various state licensing board requirements, while maintaining ease of use within our platform. I promise to update the status of the feature request in our Ideas and Suggestions Board as soon as our Product and Engineering Teams give me the green light to share more information. Here's the feature request for Signed Treatment Plans. Please continue the conversation on our Ideas and Suggestions Board, since I don't have any updates for you at this point, I'm going to close this thread for now.
