Can I bill a therapy session while a client is hospitalized? I visited the client yesterday and engaged in therapy with her while hospitalized (inpatient). I used Modifier XE and location code 21. Is this correct? Or can I not do this? Client has Medicare B and AARP Supplement.

  Hi Mari, I'd recommend checking with the insurance payer directly to see if this is how they'd like you to bill a session with an inpatient client. I'll leave this post open for other clinicians to comment on their experiences, but it may vary depending on your specialty, the client's insurance and the services rendered.
