Deposit-based services
Answered

Does anyone provide services that requires taking a deposit in advance and deducting the services from that deposit? I am trying to see if I can use Simple Practice for billing services such as child custody evaluations, court-ordered evaluations, and reunification therapy. I typically collect a deposit and deduct as services are completed, then request another deposit when the deposit gets low. I would love to hear if anyone uses SP for this type of work.

Hi Aynsley, you could charge your client the deposit amount prior to billing for the appointments, this way your client will have a credit. Then go to Settings > Billing & Services > Services > Add New Service and create a custom service code. Make the service code rate however much you'd charge per session. Everytime you create an invoice for this client, the amount billed will be deducted from the client's credit. Eventually, they'll have used up all their credit and you'll want to charge them again for the remainder of their sessions. You can create one recurring series for the sessions covered in the deposit, then create a new recurring series when the client's credit is getting low. If they don't have any other recurring series scheduled, you'll receive a notification in your Reminders tab 31 days before your client's last "Show" appointment in the series. Hope that helps!
