Closing Notes (coming from Epic system)
AnsweredHello,
I am new to SimplePractice as I just ventured out on my own. However, prior to this, I utilized EPIC because I worked in a large medical facility. Part of my workflow was to make sure I closed all of my open notes, which seems to be equivalent to the sign and lock feature in SimplePractice.
However, I recently completed a simple phone screen with a pt that was 5-10 minutes free of charge with no diagnosis or anything attached. They are not enrolled as my patient yet. I do not want to write any notes about this, but rather just have it on my calendar. I am wondering, if it is ok to do this or if there are any issues with using the calendar for this, or do I need to "sign and lock" everything. I essentially put this person on the calendar, made the code 00000, and made the duration 10 min. Afterwords, I did nothing.
I look forward to hearing from someone.

Hi Matt, if you don't intend on charging this client for the session, or billing it to insurance, then you don't need to "Lock & Sign" the note. We recommend "Locking & Signing" notes for full sessions in case you're subject to an audit, or need to submit court mandated documentation. You can also always "Lock & Sign" a note later, no need to do it immediately after the session.
