I'd love to see this as a feature as well!

Thanks, Dan and Cortney, for your suggestion! We're always taking feedback from practitioners like you on our Ideas and Suggestions board at simplepractice.uservoice.com. I'd recommend heading there to explore other, similar ideas that the SimplePractice Community has posted, and voting for the ideas that you'd use the most in your practice.

@Gillian Thank you for the encouragement. Also, I would have left my comment one the suggestion board, but I could not find a link to it anywhere in the help material or menus. Can tell me where to find it? Thanks!

Hi Dan, here's the link to our Ideas and Suggestions Board: http://simplepractice.uservoice.com/! Let me know if there's anything else we can help with.

Has this been addressed? I see the last post is from a year ago. I need to send and receive documents to/from outside providers. I also need to send and get secure messages from outside providers. Has Simple Practice been updated to make these things possible?

Leslie - I have found a workaround.  Just thought I'd put it here in case it's helpful for you.

    • get a release form for the 3rd party from the client/client's parent, and have them specify that info can be uploaded/sent to /from via portal
    • create a contact for the 3rd party as part of the client's portal profile
    • from there, you should be able to then send the 3rd party contact a link to activate their client portal access and make sure to uncheck their access for things like accessing billing, scheduling sessions, etc. for privacy reasons
    • then, you should be able to send documents to that contact and hopefully have them upload
    • once this interchange is done, you can disable the 3rd party contact's portal access

Thank you, Katherine, I will try that. I appreciate you sharing the workaround!

Thanks for this idea Katherine! While I dislike "work arounds" because there are often so many extra steps, your idea is one of the best work around ideas I've seen and actually comes close to doing what I was hoping for in the first place! I hope SP will implement a simpler way to do this in the future, but I am grateful for your instructions because it will definitely accomplish what I needed! Thanks again!
