new billing view
AnsweredI really dislike the new billing view. I have been using Simple Practice for 5 years now and overall have liked the updates and changes. But this change takes away the ability to easily see if a copay has been paid. In the classic view, I can see if it has been paid or if it was adjusted after an insurance payment (or nonpayment by insurance). Pretty frustrating.

The new billing page presentation is good looking. However, it lacks, as already stated, the payment made. This is a super important piece for me because I enter many of my payment and I need to check when a payment was not made. The total is not useful beyond the fact that the client is on track or not in term of payment.
Thank you for adding the following information: CPT and time; fee; Invoice#; Amount paid and type of payment with date.
Thank you

I strongly agree with everyone, this new format does NOT work at all for my practice. I cannot easily cross-reference an appt date with the in-office payment that was made that day, or at least for some reason those payments are not showing up on my format. Case in point, over the past 3 months a patient has paid copays each session via stripe-- which used to automatically appear along with their appt date on my old format screen so I could easily see that each appt was paid. Now on the new screen it show 0 payments for all of those dates! I had to toggle around to find the payments listed simply by date under Transactions (but not affiliated with any session info or date) on a different screen. If just looking first glance, it appears that patient had made no payments this year or last! And it isn't easy to readily cross-reference appt dates with payments made, which really is essential. That is very unhelpful and really detracts from the usefulness of this service for me. The old system wasn't perfect, but it was much more accessible and transparent up front. Also, I do not use the invoice service and now everyone is showing up with invoices that do not show the actual amount paid, only the amount of their preset copay or deductible (ie their copay is $20 but they paid 120 today to cover amounts owed, but the invoice that seems to be automatically generated states only $20 was paid! Thank goodness these are not automatically sent to my patients or I would have some confused people!).
In short, Not happy with any of these changes at all.

I completely agree! This new billing page might be the deal-breaker for me because instead of making my practice simple, this EHR continues to make things more difficult and cumbersome. Given that we currently have a choice between the new and old version, I hope SimplePractice continues to allow older users to have access to the old format. If I'm not able to easily see when the insurance and client made a payment, the billing will become a feature that is completely useless for me. Please hear our pleas, SimplePractice! I don't want our relationship to have to end but this is not working for me!

I agree! Please do not change too the new format. From a biller prospective, it take twice as long to find the information needed its confusing and messy. I have to switch to different screens to try to match payments to dates of service. It is not efficient at all. If this change is permanent I will have to look for a new EHR that has a better suited billing component. The whole point when doing an upgrade is to be more efficient and help make things better and SimplePractice has not accomplished that with this change. There are so many other things that SimplePractice needs to upgrade before changing the billing view, for example: color coding NEW clients. I am begging you to keep the old format!!

I absolutely HATE the new billing page. I need to be able to quickly and easily see payments the client made at their last session and it does not appear visible with this format. It's enough to make me take my practice to other software, which I really do not want to do. PLEASE ALLOW ACCESS TO THE OLD FORMAT!!!!!

I just wasted 2 hours trying to figure out how to document my copays. I never figured it out. I HATE this change. Please let us go back to the old format. I have been with simple practice for years and I am going to have to go to another program if they stick with this format. Do not make things more time consuming for therapists. PLEASE return our easy billing.

I'm very concerned about the new billing format. Even after I run a credit card charge, it does not read as paid. When I tried to create an invoice before running a charge, it marked the session as paid even though it was not. Please return to the old format or listen to user comments to repair the new one! The old format worked beautifully for my purposes.

Billing in general is very difficult with regards to making changes and allocating finances properly. Now to have the "classic view" completely taken away is very frustrating. I really dislike that it doesn't just show "all transactions" as a default or better yet- give us the option for to view either new or classic. Would really prefer an option of at least letting us decide what the default information we view will be. I too am growing very weary of SP billing rigidity and otherwise do like most of the other updates, but billing is getting really annoying.

The new billing format is very hard to navigate. It does not show after a credit card has been run and does not show clients copays with insurance billing. Can someone please help us work through this? Most of the changes made by Simple Practice are very helpful and streamline the process. This new format has been a disaster for me.

Hi everyone, thank you for your feedback regarding the updates to the billing view in SimplePractice. You can see client and insurance payments under View All in the drop-down menu next to the date range picker - we added this option in response to your feedback and hope this makes it easier to find the information you need quickly when viewing the client's Billing tab.
These changes were made with future improvements to SimplePractice's billing features in mind, and pave the way for better allocation of payments to invoices and more flexibility and control over client billing. -
Gillian how do I edit a specific date to indicate that a copay was paid to cover that date? It still keeps reading "unpaid" no matter what I do. I appreciate your feedback, but this format still is Not user friendly. The drop downs do not allow for the various types of payments we all receive or billing formats we do, or information we need to capture for our patient payment tracking--this section must not have been designed by an actual independent clinician. It is just too clunky, unclear and hard to use.

I completely agree! This new billing set up stinks. You used to be able to see what was paid and unpaid for each appointment and now it is completely unclear. I don't know why there are balances and what dates they are from, where the credits might be applied, etc. Nothing is by date and having to toggle back and forth between billable items, transactions, billed items, etc. just doesn't work. If there is anything that can be done to restore the previous layout of fix the new set up so it is more user friendly and clear as to what is being paid or not paid for each appointment, that would be great. Thank you!
