Preferred Names for Clinicians
I’d like to request the addition of a preferred name field for clinicians within the EHR system — similar to what already exists for clients.
It’s a meaningful omission that clinicians cannot currently display the name they use in day-to-day practice, especially when it differs from their legal name. This disproportionately impacts trans and nonbinary clinicians, but also affects anyone whose legal name doesn’t reflect the identity or presentation they use professionally.
Preferred names should be reflected:
-
On schedules
-
In client communications
-
In internal team messaging
-
Anywhere staff are listed or referenced except where legal names are required (e.g., on insurance claims or licensure documents)
Legal names can and should still be used where necessary for compliance, but for everything else, clinicians should have the autonomy to present themselves as they are.
It’s hard to justify having this feature for clients, but not for the clinicians who serve them. This is a small but high-impact update that would promote inclusion, affirm identity, and improve trust in your platform.
Thanks for considering,
Jessie
