Hi Anna,
Thanks for reaching out with this suggestion. We love feedback and ideas for ways to advance the platform, and we encourage you to add it to our Ideas and Suggestions board. I even found this post that you can vote and comment on: Driver's License and Pic added to Portal Upload.

I am writing to formally express my deep concern regarding the ongoing absence of a critical feature in your platform — the ability to upload and securely store clients' driver's licenses. This feature is not only essential for ensuring compliance with insurance requirements but also crucial for maintaining accurate and secure client records.
For over three years, numerous clinicians, including myself, have repeatedly requested this feature. Despite ongoing feedback, there has been no implementation of this vital function. Meanwhile, your platform’s pricing has increased, yet this key compliance feature continues to be neglected.
Under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), healthcare providers are required to take reasonable steps to verify the identity of their clients when processing protected health information. In addition, major insurance providers mandate valid photo identification, such as a driver's license, to prevent fraudulent claims. By failing to provide a dedicated and secure method for storing this essential documentation, your platform is placing clinicians in a vulnerable position where compliance efforts are unnecessarily challenging.
I must emphasize that as a platform serving licensed mental health professionals, SimplePractice has a responsibility to support features that enable us to meet legal and professional standards. The absence of this function not only compromises administrative efficiency but may also expose both clinicians and your platform to potential compliance risks.
I strongly urge your development team to prioritize the implementation of a secure driver's license upload feature. As a long-term customer, I expect SimplePractice to align with industry best practices and provide the tools necessary for legal and ethical client management.
Please confirm receipt of this message and provide a clear timeline for when this essential feature will be addressed.

I am also eager to follow this 3 year old thread about getting the demographics intake to add driver's license uploading prompt. Since we don't have this yet, and clients don't do this independently when requested, I have added a document that clients sign declaring they are whom they claim to be, but it's a CYA measure that could easily be remedied with an EHR that supports the provider. I am eager to learn more and the links provided throughout this thread, which are not directing as they were hoped to direct (at least not for me) and I would like to learn more about what is taking so long on getting this necessary step included. Thank you!
