Family File: Two children seen together in session
AnsweredHello - I have a family with two children where the parents are currently processing a divorce. One parent has custody and is bringing the children to their sessions. The other parent has access only to summaries. Due to the divorce, I am in high documentation mode, which is where I am struggling. The children have individual files as minors connected to the parent with custody. Since I see the children together, I do not know which file to write the session note. I know how to schedule the children for the same session date/time, but why would I select one file over another to write the session notes or upload docs? I think I am looking for a family file in addition to individual and couple files. Should I create the children as a couple? I need help, please.

Hi Toby,
Since we currently don't have the option of creating a family file, your options for this are to either keep both of the client's as individual client's and decide which client to add notes to, or create a couple profile. Keep in mind that if you create a couple profile, you cannot add any contacts to the file which means there is no way to have one of the parents have access to the couple client's file unless you enter in the parents email address as the couple's Client Portal account information.

Hi Toby,
Currently we do not have an ETA for this client type. I recommend voting and/or commenting on this Ideas and Suggestion Board post: https://simplepractice.uservoice.com/forums/918553-simplepractice-feedback/suggestions/42504901-family-client-type This post will have a status update once it is something that is in the process of being completed and then released.
