UNPAID invoices marked as PAID

It is frustrating that SOMETIMES the system allows an Invoice to be created & saved, leaving the ADD PAYMENT option open.  Other times (and no, there is no CREDIT showing on the account) - it will just create / arbitrarily mark the invoice PAID - OVERSTATING my collections/sales.  When the "View All" is selected - there clearly was NO Stripe payment made (and they are not cash).  PLEASE HELP!
