You can store and share important files for your practice in your Business Files page. This section is intended for non-client files and documents, such as licenses, business agreements, and continuing education certificates.
In this guide, we’ll cover:
- Uploading a business file
- Downloading a business file
- Renaming a business file
- Deleting a business file
- Sharing a business file with team members
Uploading a business file
To upload a business file:
- Navigate to Settings > Business Files
- Click Upload File
- Max file size is 50MB
- Select the file to upload from your computer
Note: On the Plus plan, only the Account Owner and Practice Manager can upload business files.
An uploaded file will appear with its file Name, Upload date, and which team member that file was Uploaded by.
Tip: You can search for an uploaded file by using the search bar at the top of the Business Files page.
When a symbol appears next to a business file’s name, this indicates that the file has been shared with other team members. You can hover over the symbol to view which roles have access to the file.
If it says Not recorded under Uploaded by, this means that the document was uploaded by a team member when the section was previously known as Business documents.
Note: On the Plus plan, only the Account Owner and Practice Manager can view all business files. A team member with a scheduler, biller, clinician, or supervisor role can view business files that have been shared with their respective role.
Downloading a business file
To download a business file:
- Navigate to Settings > Business Files
- Click the three dots next to the document you’d like to download

If you’re a team member that isn’t the Account Owner or Practice Manager, you can download a business file you have access to by clicking the cloud button next to the file.

Note: On the Plus plan, only the Account Owner and Practice Manager can rename business files.
Deleting a business file
Important: Once a business file is deleted, it can’t be recovered by our team at SimplePractice. All team members will lose access to the file once it’s deleted.
To delete a business file:
- Navigate to Settings > Business Files
- Click the three dots next to the file you’d like to delete
- Select Delete
- Click Delete in the pop up
Note: On the Plus plan, only the Account Owner and Practice Manager can delete business files.
Sharing a business file with team members
If you’re an Account Owner or Practice Manager on the Plus plan, you can share a business file with other team members based on their role. To do this:
- Navigate to Settings > Business Files
- Click the three dots next to the file you’d like to share
- Select Share
- Depending on the role(s) you’d like to share the file with, check the box next to Clinicians, Supervisors, Billers, and/or Schedulers
- Click Save
Once a business file is shared with a certain role, all team members with that role will have access to the file at Settings > Business Files. For example, if you selected Billers during the steps to share a file, all team members with the Biller role will be able to access the file.
