You can use the SimplePractice for Clinicians mobile app to add clients, access each client’s Overview page, and view or manage client information and contacts. Below, we'll cover:
- Adding a client on Android

Adding a client on Android
To add a client on the mobile app:
- Navigate to the calendar
- Tap + > Create client
If the client is an individual, you can enter the following information by:
- Tapping Name to enter the client’s first and last name, as well as what name they go by
- Tapping Add phone and/or Add email to add the client’s phone number and email address
- When adding a phone number, you can also check Voice OK and/or Text OK to indicate that you can contact them by voicemail or text message
- Tapping Active or Prospective to indicate the client’s status
- Selecting the client’s primary clinician and default appointment location
- Tapping Billing & Insurance, then selecting the client’s billing type as Self-Pay or Insurance
If the client is a minor:
- Tap Client Type from the top of the screen
- This will likely appear with Adult under it
- Choose Minor
- Enter the client’s information as you would for an individual
- Tap Contacts > + Contact to add a contact
- Select an existing client or contact, or add a new contact by tapping the + icon
- Tap Billing & Insurance, then tap the appropriate individual under Responsible for billing
If the client is a couple:
- Tap Client Type from the top of the screen
- This will likely appear with Adult under it
- Choose Couple
- Tap Add Client 1 and Add Client 2
- Select an existing client or contact, or add a new client by tapping the + icon
- Select Active or Prospective to indicate the couple client’s status
- Tap the client’s primary clinician and default appointment location to change this, if needed
- Select Billing & Insurance
- Tap whether the couple client is Self-pay or Insurance
- Under Responsible for billing, select the appropriate individual
Important: Tap the checkmark at the top right of the screen after you’ve finished entering the client’s information.
Navigating to the client’s Overview page on Android
To navigate to a client’s Overview page on the SimplePractice for Clinicians app:
- Tap the Clients tab at the bottom of the screen
- Search for the client
- Tap their name
Note: You can also access the client’s Overview page by tapping their appointment on the calendar, then tapping their name at the top.
From the client’s Overview, you can:
- Add or view an administrative note
- View or schedule a client’s next appointment
- Manage a client’s billing under the Billing & Insurance section
- Manage a client’s files by tapping Shared or Stored
- View and edit a client’s info by tapping Details
- View a client’s contacts by tapping Contacts
You can also tap + on the lower right and choose to Create Appointment, Add Payment, or Share New Document(s).
Viewing and editing a client’s information on Android
Note: Your team member role will determine which items you can view and customize. To change a client's information on the browser, see Editing a client’s information.
If you tap Details on the client's Overview page, you can view the following information:

To view more client information and edit this, tap the pencil icon at the top right of the screen.
When you're editing a client, you'll be able to view and edit the client's information under multiple tabs: Details, Billing & Insurance, and Contacts. Below, we'll cover each tab and what information it includes.
Details
From the Details tab, which you'll view by default, you can customize the following:
- Client name
- Demographic information
- Birth date
- Sex
- Gender identity
- Relationship status
- Tap Demographics info to edit:
- Employment status
- Race & Ethnicity
- Preferred language
- Referral source
- Date First Seen
- Contact Info
- Phone number(s)
- If you tap their phone number, you can toggle if voice and/or text reminders are enabled
- Email address(es)
- If you tap their email, you can toggle if email reminders are enabled
- Physical address(es)
- Phone number(s)
- Administrative
- Primary clinician
- Clinicians granted access
- Tap the number of clinicians granted access to further see who specifically has access to the client's profile
- Default appointment location
You can also toggle whether:
- The client is Active
- Toggle this off to make the client Inactive
- The client is a minor
- To set the client as a minor, toggle this on
Billing & Insurance
Tap here to view and edit the client's billing information.
This includes:
- The client’s billing type
- Who is responsible for billing
- This can be the client or one of their contacts
- Insurance information
- Tap + Add Insurance to add an insurance payer for the client
- If the client has an existing insurance payer, you can tap on their name to edit the client's details
- You'll also be able to add the front and back of the client's insurance card
Contacts

Important: Make sure to tap the checkmark on the top right of the screen once you're finished with your changes.
Viewing a client’s contacts on Android
If you tap Contacts on the client’s Overview page, you can view the contacts associated with the client. You can tap on each contact to view their profile, which will include their name, contact info and relationship with the client. You can view an example of a contact's profile below.
As with clients, you'll also be able to send an email, call, text, or Secure Message the contact by tapping icons at the top of the page. For more information, see Communicating with clients on Android.
Note: If the contact is also a client in your practice, you'll view their client's Overview page instead.
To edit the name and contact details of a contact, tap the pencil icon. Make sure to tap the checkmark once you've made your changes.
To further view and edit information about a contact in relation to the client:
- Navigate to the client's Overview page
- Tap the pencil icon on the top right
- Tap Contacts
- Tap + Contact if you'd like to add a new contact
- Select on the existing contact's name to further edit their information:
- Tap Relationship to change the contact's relationship to the client
- Toggle them as the client's Emergency contact
- To remove them as a contact, tap Remove Relationship
- Tap the arrow on the top left to return to editing the rest of the client's information
