Disabling autofill in your browser

Many browsers offer an autofill feature that automatically fills in information like addresses, credit cards, and passwords. While this can be convenient for everyday browsing, it may unintentionally store client information or your SimplePractice login credentials in your browser.

To protect client PHI and keep your SimplePractice account secure, we recommend disabling autofill in any browser you use to access SimplePractice. Follow the steps for your browser below:


Google Chrome

To disable autofill in Chrome:

  1. Open Chrome
  2. Click the 3 vertical dots at the top right corner
  3. Click Settings
  4. Choose Autofill and passwords

From here, you can turn off password autofill:

  1. Select Google Password Manager > Settings.
  2. Toggle off:
    • Offer to save passwords
    • Sign in automatically

Next, turn off address autofill:

  1. Return to Autofill and passwords
  2. Select Addresses and more
  3. Toggle off Save and fill addresses

Mozilla Firefox

To disable autofill in Firefox:

  1. Open Firefox
  2. Click the 3 horizontal lines in the upper-right corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. Choose Privacy & Security
  5. Under Autofill, uncheck: 
    • Save and fill addresses 
    • Save and fill payment methods

Safari

To disable autofill in Safari:

  1. Open Safari
  2. In the top menu bar, select Safari > Settings
  3. Choose the AutoFill tab
  4. Uncheck the following:
    • Using information from my contacts
    • User names and passwords
    • Credit cards
    • Other forms

Microsoft Edge

To disable autofill in Edge:

  1. Open Edge
  2. Click the 3 horizontal dots in the in the upper-right corner
  3. Select Settings
  4. From the left sidebar, choose Profiles
  5. Next to Microsoft Wallet, select Open Wallet

  1. From the Microsoft Wallet Settings page, toggle off the following:
    • Save and fill payment info
    • Automatically save passwords
    • Autofill passwords and passkeys
    • Save and fill basic info

Opera

To disable autofill in Opera on macOS:

  1. Open Opera
  2. Click the gear icon in the left sidebar
    • If the sidebar isn’t visible, select Opera > Settings from the menu bar
  3. Scroll down and select Advanced

From here, you can turn off password autofill:

  1. Under Autofill and passwords, select Password Manager
  2. Disable: 
    • Offer to save passwords 
    • Auto Sign-in

Next, turn off payment autofill:

  1. Return to Advanced
  2. Select Payment methods
  3. Toggle off Save and fill payment methods

To turn off address autofill:

  1. Return to Advanced
  2. Select Addresses and more
  3. Toggle off Save and fill addresses

To disable autofill in Opera on Windows:

  1. Click the Opera menu in the top left corner
  2. Select Settings
  3. Open the Advanced menu
  4. Choose Privacy & security
  5. Scroll down to the Autofill section
  6. Expand each section and use the toggles to turn off autofill
