How SimplePractice uses tracking technologies

You may have questions about tracking technologies, such as pixels, and how they’re used by SimplePractice.

SimplePractice does not use tracking technologies to collect protected health information (PHI) or sensitive client data. There are no pixels in the SimplePractice platform or client-facing websites, such as the Client Portal and Therapy Finder.

You can find answers to commonly asked questions about SimplePractice’s use of tracking technologies below:

What are pixels and cookies?

Pixels are third-party codes that are embedded in websites, ads, or emails. These aren’t visible and are used to track online engagement, such as clicks or views.

Cookies are small text files that store information across websites for ease of use. This includes login information and language settings.

Both are considered forms of tracking technology and are commonly used in websites, often in combination.

How are tracking technologies used?

Websites use tracking technologies to:

  • Understand how visitors use their site
  • Measure performance (such as page views or clicks)
  • Improve content and usability
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of marketing efforts

These uses generally focus on aggregated website activity, rather than interactions within secure or user-authenticated environments.

Where does SimplePractice use tracking technologies?

SimplePractice only uses third-party tracking pixels on our public-facing website (www.simplepractice.com). These technologies help us understand how visitors use our site so we can improve its performance and make it accessible to prospective customers.

We do not use third-party tracking pixels within the SimplePractice platform or client-facing websites, such as the Client Portal and Therapy Finder. This ensures that PHI is never collected or transmitted using these technologies.

While cookies are used more broadly, they can be opted out of in your browser’s Privacy and security settings. Cookies do not collect PHI or sensitive client data.

How does SimplePractice protect my data?

Protecting the privacy and security of your data and your clients’ data is fundamental to how SimplePractice operates.

We only use tracking technologies in strict compliance with our Privacy Policy, CCPA, and HIPAA. We do not use third-party tracking pixels in areas where clients receive care, and we never use these technologies to collect or transmit protected health information. We also never sell your data or your clients’ data to third parties.
