Uploading files for Note Taker

If you record a client session using your own device, you have the option to upload a recording and Note Taker will create a draft note from that recording for that session. You can also upload your own document to generate a draft note.

In this guide, we'll cover:

Important: If your state requires specific consent for AI-use in client care, you can use the Consent for Use of AI Tools with De-Identified Transcript Retention form. To send this form, see Does SimplePractice have a consent form available for the use of AI tools in client care?

Uploading files on a web browser

Important: Similar to recording a client session, the uploaded recording and/or document will immediately be deleted as soon as a draft note has been created. The draft note will be available up to 7 days after the upload occurs or when the note is locked and signed, whichever comes first.

To upload a recording of a client session:

  1. Navigate to the appointment page and select the Note tab
  2. In the upper right corner, click Session Content

Note: Files must be formatted as .mp3, .m4a, txt, .md, .pdf, .docx, or .rtf in order to generate a draft note.

Once generated, you can access the draft note by clicking Note Taker. For more information on editing, see Editing draft notes.
