A separate email invitation will be sent to the clinician. To set up ePrescribe in their own SimplePractice account, they can click Start ePrescribe setup.

How do I grant staff access for ePrescribe?

You can assign a staff access role to a team member in your group practice so they can queue prescriptions or send prescriptions to pharmacies (non-controlled substances only) on behalf of a prescriber.

First, you’ll need to update this team member’s role to either a practice manager or clinician with entire practice access, if they aren’t already. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Team > Team members
  2. Click the name of the team member
  3. Under Role info, click Edit
  4. Check the box for either:
    • Practice manager
    • Clinician and Entire practice
  5. Click Continue
  6. Add additional permissions as needed
  7. Click Continue

  1. Review the changes to your subscription plan
  2. Click Save changes

Note: There's an additional monthly cost per practice manager and/or clinician that you add to your group practice. For more information, see Adding and managing team members. For staff access roles in DrFirst, the monthly ePrescribing fee is waived.

Once added as a practice manager or clinician with entire practice access, the Account Owner can grant staff access to that team member:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Practice > Plan info
  2. Under Add-ons, click Manage access

  1. Click Add ePrescribe next to the team member(s) name(s)
Add ePrescribe option next to team members in Manage access
  1. Select Staff access

  1. Click Continue > Submit

The Account Owner and the team member granted staff access will receive an email confirmation.

If the staff member will also be sending prescriptions (non-controlled substances only) to pharmacies on the prescriber’s behalf, the prescriber will need to add the team member to their Authorized Agents list in DrFirst.

Note: These steps must be completed by the prescriber, but will be included in the Account Owner’s confirmation email.

Important: Due to state regulations, prescribers located in New York or Georgia aren’t permitted to designate team members with staff access as Authorized Agents in DrFirst.

To add a team member to a prescriber’s Authorized Agents list in DrFirst, the prescriber can:

  1. Click ePrescribe from the left navigation menu
  2. Choose the hamburger menu in the top left corner
  3. Select Utilities > Manage Provider Agent Assignments

  1. Under Available Staff, find the team member
  2. Click Authorize
  3. Check the box for I affirm that I am an authorized representative of this practice with authority to configure Provider Agents.
  4. Click Approve Changes

How do I add an ePrescribe supervisor?

You can find the three types of supervisors that can be set up and their descriptions below:

Type of supervisor Description
Supervisor is supervising and also ePrescribing In this case, the supervisor is also ePrescribing for their own clients in the account and will need access to view your prescriptions to be able to leave notes. The supervisor’s name and information will be on prescriptions when sent to pharmacies.
Supervisor is only supervising In this case, the supervisor isn’t ePrescribing in the account, but will need access to view your prescriptions to be able to leave notes. The supervisor’s name and information will be on prescriptions when sent to pharmacies.
Supervisor’s name needs to be on the prescription only In this case, the supervisor’s name and information only need to be on prescriptions when sent to pharmacies. The supervisor isn’t ePrescribing in your account and won’t be able to view prescriptions within DrFirst.

To add an ePrescribe supervisor, please reach out to our team.
