Adding ePrescribe to your account

You can add ePrescribe to your SimplePractice account to prescribe medications to your clients electronically. This feature is available as an add-on for all subscription tiers for a $49 fee per month for each clinician, before applicable tax. There’s also a one-time, non-refundable setup fee of $89 for each clinician added, along with any applicable tax.

Choosing a paid plan

To add ePrescribe to your SimplePractice account, a subscription plan must be selected. For more information, see SimplePractice subscription billing information.

To choose a paid plan:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Profile > Clinical info
  2. Under ePrescribe, hover your cursor over Start ePrescribe setup or Invite to ePrescribe if you’re in a group practice
  3. Click Select a paid plan

  1. Choose a subscription plan that’s right for your practice
  2. Click Continue
  3. Select any add-ons
  4. Click Continue
  5. Add payment information
  6. Click Confirm

Creating an ePrescribe profile

Note: If you’re in a group practice and want to add a team member to ePrescribe, see Inviting clinicians to set up ePrescribe.

To add ePrescribe to your SimplePractice account:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Practice > Plan info
  2. Scroll to the Add-ons section
    • In a solo practice, click Add ePrescribe

  • In a group practice, click Manage access > Manage access next to your name

  1. In the pop-up window, check the box for I agree to pay the nonrefundable $89 setup fee + tax today
  2. Click Pay and continue

Note: Click Back at any time to navigate to the previous screen.

Once you’ve paid the ePrescribe setup fee, you’ll be prompted to create an ePrescribe profile.

  1. Add your contact information
    • Information added here is saved for ePrescribe purposes only
    • If you prescribe controlled substances, a hard token will be mailed to the mailing address you provide
  2. Click Next

  1. Add your clinical info
  2. If you prescribe controlled substances:
    • Answer Yes to Do you prescribe controlled substances?
    • Enter both a DEA and state prescribing license (required for prescribing controlled substances)
  3. Click Next

  1. If you have an existing DrFirst account, answer Yes to Do you already have an account with DrFirst?
    • If you already have a DrFirst account, still have the hard token, and remember your passphrase, you’ll be able to re-authenticate your identity using your existing credentials
    • Please note that the data from your old DrFirst account can’t be imported into SimplePractice
  2. If you don’t have an existing DrFirst account, answer No to Do you already have an account with DrFirst?

Note: DrFirst is our third-party ePrescribe partner.

  1. If you prescribe controlled substances, add contact information for your granting administrator
  2. Click Next

  1. Review our ePrescribe Terms of Service
    • To download a copy for your records, click Download a copy
  2. Check the box for I agree to the ePrescribe terms of service
  3. Click Submit

Once submitted, your ePrescribe profile will automatically be created. Click OK to exit.

You’ll also receive an ePrescribe setup confirmation email with a link to the receipt for the one-time setup fee of $89 and tax, if applicable.
