Telehealth
You can meet a client for online sessions through our HIPAA compliant Telehealth feature, without any limits for time or number of appointments. Telehealth also supports waiting rooms, screen-sharing, and interactive whiteboards.
Telehealth is included for individual and couple appointments in the Essential and Plus plans. It can be added on the Starter plan for an additional $15/month.
Telehealth can be enabled for group appointments as an add-on for the Plus plan, at an additional $15/month per clinician. This Telehealth feature can support up to 15 clients and 1 clinician within the same session.

Secure Messaging
Use the Secure Messaging feature to communicate with clients, clinicians, and contacts while maintaining HIPAA compliance. You can also set up an automatic Away message to let clients know when you’re unavailable.
Secure Messaging with clients is included on the Essential and Plus plans at no additional cost. Secure Messaging isn’t available on the Starter plan.

Adding team members
The option to add team members to your account is exclusively available on the Plus plan.

With a Plus plan subscription, you can add an unlimited number of non-clinician team members, like Schedulers, Billers, and Supervisors, at no additional cost.
You can also add:
- Practice managers for an additional $39/month per person
- Multiple clinicians for an additional $59/month per clinician
Note: Certain permissions can also be updated for team members to suit your practice’s needs. To learn more, see Adding and managing team members and Team member roles and access levels.
Group appointments
Group appointments can be scheduled for a maximum group of 15 clients. Clinicians can add a group progress note for the entire appointment, along with individual progress notes for each client.
Clinicians can also gain access to Telehealth for group appointments via add-on.

Appointment reminders
You can send text, email, or voice reminders to your clients for their appointments. Clients can also confirm or cancel their appointments through text reminders, which will reflect on their appointments in your SimplePractice calendar.
All appointment reminder features are included on the Plus and Essential plans at no additional cost. Reminders for Telehealth appointments are available on the Starter plan with the Telehealth add-on.

Note: Email, voice, and text templates and reminders aren’t customizable for trial customers. To customize templates and reminders during your trial, add a credit card by navigating to Settings > Practice > Plan info. For more information, see Updating your credit card information.
Online appointment requests
Clients can request appointments with you through online appointment requests on SimplePractice. You can customize the services and times that clients can request online, along with other unique specifications for your practice.
Online appointment requests are included on the Plus and Essential plans at no additional cost. The Client Portal can be set up and used on the Starter plan, but only for intake and billing purposes. Online appointment requests aren’t available on the Starter plan.

Providers can use the Professional Website and Monarch to reach out to potential clients. You can build an accessible and modern webpage through the Professional Website, and connect to individuals seeking services by adding your practice to Monarch.

Calendar sync
If you use a personal calendar through Apple, Outlook, or Google, you can view your SimplePractice appointments and events on these platforms through our calendar sync feature.
Our calendar sync features are exclusively available on the Plus plan at no additional cost. They aren’t available on the Starter or Essential plans.

Other documents
You can easily create, sign, and do more with other documents in SimplePractice. There’s no limit to the number of other documents you can create. You’ll also have the option of sharing other documents with clients for e-signatures.
Other documents are included on the Essential and Plus plans at no additional cost. They aren't available on the Starter plan.

Customizable note templates
Templates for intake forms, progress notes, other documents, and treatment planners can be tailored for your unique practice’s needs. You can create a template from scratch, or customize our default templates with a variety of options.
Progress note, other document, and treatment plan templates can only be used and customized on the Essential and Plus plans. Intake form templates can be used and customized on all subscription plans.

On the Essential and Plus plans, you'll have full access to all of our Pre-built templates. On the Starter plan, you'll have access to our Simple Progress Note and Simple Treatment Plan templates, which both consist of a blank text field. You’ll also have access to basic DAP and SOAP note templates.

Wiley Treatment Planners
Beyond our treatment plan templates in the Template Library, we also offer Wiley Treatment Planners, which are comprehensive and research-based templates for treatment plans. With Wiley Treatment Planners, you can create effective treatment plans for clients.
Wiley Treatment Planners are included on the Plus plan at no additional cost, and are available as an add-on to the Essential plan for an additional $15/month. This feature isn’t available on the Starter plan.

Adding a logo
If your practice has a logo, you can customize your billing and intake forms by adding your logo to the top of your documents. Adding your practice logo is only available on the Essential and Plus plans.

Administrative notes
Administrative notes are located at the top of a client profile, and are a convenient way of letting you and your team members know about important details for a client. Administrative notes can be edited at any time.
Administrative notes are included on the Essential and Plus plans at no additional cost. This feature isn’t available on the Starter plan.

Insurance billing
SimplePractice hosts a variety of insurance billing features, including electronic claim filing, claim status updates and tracking, and the automatic recording of insurance payments from ERAs or EOBs.
These features are only available on the Essential and Plus plans. You can create and print or download auto-populated claim forms (CMS 1500) on the Starter plan, but you'll have to submit these outside of SimplePractice.

Analytics dashboard
The Analytics dashboard serves as a hub to track your practice’s performance during a period of time, and includes snapshots of your income, outstanding balances, and more.
The Analytics dashboard is included on the Essential and Plus plans at no additional cost. If you’re on the Plus plan, other team members can also have access to the Analytics dashboard. This feature isn’t available on the Starter plan.

Client waitlist
You can place prospective clients on the waitlist when your practice isn’t currently taking new clients. Client waitlist is only available on the Plus plan.

Moving from one plan to another plan
If you upgrade your plan from Starter to Essential or Plus, or from Essential to Plus, all features exclusive to the plan you’re upgrading to will be automatically available.
Our Plus plan includes all of the robust features SimplePractice offers. If you downgrade to the Starter or Essential plan, you’ll lose access to certain features. Some features to consider when moving from the Plus plan to the Starter or Essential plan include:
Secure Messaging
- On the Starter plan, you’ll no longer be able to contact clients through Secure Messaging
- If you update back to the Plus plan or the Essential plan, you’ll have access to your previous Secure Messages
Adding team members
- If you’ll be moving to the Starter or Essential plan, you’ll first need to remove all other team members from your account

Team members’ documentation and activity will be preserved for record keeping, and clinicians’ client details won’t be deleted
- Team members will need to be set up as new team members if they rejoin your account on the Plus plan
Group appointments
- If you’ll be moving to the Starter or Essential plan, you’ll first need to remove all future group appointments from your calendar
- Past group appointments will be retained with their documentation when you move to another plan
- You’ll also be able to edit past group appointments if needed
Appointment reminders
- Client reminders are only available on our Essential and Plus plans

On the Starter plan, you’ll no longer be able to send client appointment reminders, including email, text, and voice reminders
- If you enable our Telehealth add-on for an additional $15/mo. on the Starter plan, you’ll be able to access and send out Telehealth email and text reminders
Appointment-request widget
- If you move to the Starter or Essential plans, you’ll no longer be able to use the appointment request widget
- If you still have the widget code on your website, clients who click the widget will see a message letting them know they need to contact their practitioner directly
Professional Website and Monarch directory

Your Professional Website will no longer be publicly accessible on the Starter plan
- If you upgrade back to the Essential or Plus plan, you can turn your Professional Website back on for your website to be publicly accessible
- If you move to the Starter plan, you won’t be able to use the Monarch Directory, and your previous Monarch profile will be removed
Calendar sync
- On the Starter or Essential plan, you’ll no longer have access to our Calendar sync feature

Calendar sync will be disabled automatically when you choose either of these plans, and any synced calendars will be unsynced
- All previously synced appointments will also be removed
Other documents, customizable note templates, and Wiley Treatment Planners

If you move to the Starter plan, you’ll no longer be able to create other documents or Wiley Treatment Planners
- If you move to the Essential plan, you can still access Wiley Treatment Planners with the Wiley Treatment Planner add-on

On the Starter plan, you’ll lose access to using and customizing most progress note, other document, and treatment plan templates
- You’ll still have access to the Simple Progress Note, Simple Treatment Plan, and basic DAP and SOAP templates
- You can also access previously created progress notes, other documents, and treatment plans
- If you update back to the Plus or Essential plan, you’ll have access to your templates, along with the feature to customize them
Insurance billing
- Most insurance billing features, such as our electronic claim filing and automatic recording of insurance payments from ERAs/EOBs, will be deactivated if you move to the Starter plan

Any claims that you’ve submitted before moving to the Starter plan will still be sent to insurance payers
- You’ll still be able to create and print your own claims to file outside of SimplePractice
