Which subscription plan is right for me?

If you're trying to decide which of our 3 subscription plans is best for your practice, the Starter, the Essential, or the Plus, this guide can help you make your decision.

Here, you'll find information about our new subscription plans, guidance on moving from our old subscription plans, and answers to commonly asked questions:

Keep in mind that you're welcome to update your plan at any time by navigating to Settings > Subscription Information - even during your trial. 

30-day free trials are set for you to experience the Plus plan by default, but you can adjust to a different plan to see if it fits your needs by navigating to Settings > Subscription Information.

Telehealth

Telehealth is included in the monthly subscription on the Essential and Plus plans at no additional cost and is available as an add-on feature on the Starter plan for an additional $15/mo.

Note: If you have multiple clinicians on the Plus plan, Telehealth will be included for each of them at no additional cost.

Wiley Treatment Planners

Wiley Treatment Planners are included at no additional cost on the Plus plan, and as an add-on to the Essential plan for just $15/mo. This feature is not available on the Starter plan.

Professional Website & Monarch

The Professional Website and Monarch are included at no additional cost on the Plus and Essential plans. These features are not available on the Starter plan.

Calendar Sync

Our Calendar Sync features are exclusively available on the Plus plan at no additional cost. They are not available on the Starter or Essential plans.

Assessments

Assessments are included at no additional cost on the Plus and Essential plans. This feature is not available on the Starter plan.

Online Appointment Requests

Online Appointment Requests are included at no additional cost on the Plus and Essential plans. The Client Portal can be set up and used on the Starter plan, but only for intake and billing purposes. Online Appointment Requests are not available on the Starter plan.

Secure Messaging

Secure Messaging with clients is included at no additional cost on the Plus and Essential plans. Secure Messaging is not available on the Starter plan.

Note: Plus plans with additional team members or multiple clinicians will also have access to use Secure Messaging with team members.

Customizable note templates

Progress note templates can only be customized on the Essential and Plus plans. Intake form templates can be customized on all subscription plans. 

On the Essential and Plus plans, you'll have full access to our entire Template Library. You'll also have the ability to edit any progress note template or create new ones from scratch.  

On the Starter plan, you'll have access to our Simple Progress Note, which consists of a blank text field. You'll also have access to a basic DAP and SOAP note template.

Administrative notes

Administrative notes are included at no additional cost on the Essential and Plus plans. This feature is not available on the Starter plan.

Booking Widget

The Booking Widget is only available on the Plus plan.

Adding a logo

Adding your practice logo to your billing and intake documents is a feature only available on the Essential and Plus plans.

Insurance billing

Electronic claim filing, claim status updates and tracking, integrated ERAs/EOBs (payment reports), automated ERA accounting, and coverage reports are all features that are only available on the Essential and Plus plans. 

You can create and print or download auto-populated claim forms (CMS 1500) on the Starter Plan, but you'll have to submit these outside of SimplePractice.

Adding team members

The option to add additional team members to your account is exclusively available on the Plus plan. 

With a Plus plan subscription, you can add an unlimited number of non-clinical team members, like Schedulers, Billers, and Supervisors, for free. 

You can also add multiple clinical team members to your account for an additional $59/month per clinician.

Selecting a new subscription plan

If you’re an existing customer, you’ll be guided by in-app messages that will help you choose the best plan for your unique practice starting on February 1, 2022. To help you make a decision ahead of time, we’ve outlined what you can expect with each new subscription based on which plan you're moving from:

Note: Only Account Owners can choose the subscription plan for their practice. 


Moving from the old Professional plan

If you’re moving from our old Professional plan and you select the new Plus plan for $99/mo., you’ll have access to all of the features included on your existing plan, plus free access to Telehealth and Wiley Treatment Planners, and you’ll even get 35 free insurance claims each month.

If you select the Essential plan for $69/mo., please note that this plan doesn’t include the Calendar Sync feature, the Booking Widget, free access to Wiley Treatment Planners, or the ability to add additional team members. Though it does include integrated Telehealth, the Professional Website builder, insurance coverage reports, and appointment reminders, all at no additional cost. You’ll also have the option to enable Wiley Treatment Planners for $15/mo., and you’ll get 10 free insurance claims included in your subscription each month.

If you select the Starter plan, please note that you’ll be losing access to appointment reminders, confirm/cancel via text, Online Appointment Requests, free Telehealth, Secure Messaging with clients, Calendar Sync, the Booking Widget, assessments, custom note templates, administrative notes, free access to Wiley Treatment Planners, electronic claim filing, automated payment reports (ERAs/EOBs), State Health Information Exchange (e.g., NCHIE), and insurance coverage reports. With this plan, you will have the option to enable Telehealth for an additional $15/mo.


Moving from the old Essential plan

If you’re moving from our old Essential plan and you select the new Essential plan for $69/mo., you’ll have all of the features included on your existing plan and more. The new Essential plan also includes integrated Telehealth, the Professional Website builder, insurance coverage reports, and appointment reminders, all at no additional cost. You’ll also have the option to enable Wiley Treatment Planners for $15/mo., and you’ll even get 10 free insurance claims each month.

If you select the Starter plan, please note that you’ll be losing access to appointment reminders for your clients. With this plan, you will have the option to enable Telehealth for an additional $15/mo.

If you select the Plus plan for $99/mo., you’ll gain access to every feature we offer and all of our add-on features at no additional cost. The features you’ll gain include appointment reminders, confirm/cancel via text, Online Appointment Requests, Telehealth, Secure Messaging, Calendar Sync, the Booking Widget, assessments, custom note templates, administrative notes, Wiley Treatment Planner, electronic claim filing, automated payment reports (ERAs/EOBs), State Health Information Exchange (e.g., NCHIE), insurance coverage reports, Monarch directory, Professional website, free Billers, Supervisors, and Schedulers, and the ability to add clinicians for an additional $59/mo. per clinician.


Moving from the old Professional plan for groups

The Plus plan is the only plan that supports group practices, and it includes access to all the robust features we offer. This plan includes integrated Telehealth, the professional Website Builder, Wiley Treatment Planners, and more, for no additional cost. You’ll even get 35 free insurance claims each month. On the Plus plan, you can also add billers, schedulers, and/or supervisors for free, and an unlimited number of clinicians for $59/mo. per clinician. We’re also introducing a new option to add a practice manager role with more access to practice settings, clinical documentation, and financial information that can be tailored to how you run your practice and will be available for only $39/mo. per person.

FAQs


Why are the offered subscription plans changing?

Changing our subscription plans wasn't a decision we took lightly. We made the thoughtful choice to give our customers more flexibility in selecting plans and features they need, and to better reflect the value created by all the innovative features we've developed.

These subscription changes allow us to continue to deliver a level of quality and service that we can be incredibly proud of. We’ve dedicated ourselves to offering solutions for not only growing your practice, but also empowering you as an entrepreneur. You can see all of the features we added in 2021 to support you.

We will also continue to uphold our commitment to providing world class customer support. Our US-based Customer Success team makes up more than 50% of our company, and we’re proud to share that we have employees who bring firsthand experience from across the health and wellness industry. To make support even more readily available, we’ve also introduced phone support and extended our chat hours.


When do I have to select my new plan?

As of February 1st, 2022, the Account Owner for existing subscriptions will have the option to select a new plan at any time by navigating to Settings > Subscription Information.

If you haven’t picked a plan by your practice’s March billing date, account access will be limited until you make a selection. If your account access becomes limited, you’ll still have the ability to export your data, and you’ll continue to be charged your old rate until you select a new plan.

Note: Trial accounts created after January 5th, 2022 will be able to select one of our new subscription plans at any time.


What happens to the Calendar Sync if I don't select Plus? 

The Calendar Sync feature is now only offered on the Plus plan. If you select the Starter or Essential plan and you previously had this feature enabled, your calendar will stop syncing events on the day your new plan goes into effect. Any previously synced events will be removed from your calendar once the sync is disconnected.


What happens to the Booking Widget if I don't select Plus?

The Booking Widget is now only offered on the Plus plan. If you select the Essential or Starter plans, the Booking Widget will no longer be available to add to your existing website. 

As an alternative, the Professional Website is now included on the Essential plan at no additional cost. This means that with the Essential subscription plan, once your Professional Website is set up, you can still use our integrated Online Appointment Request feature to have clients book online.

If you previously published the Booking Widget on your external website and you select the new Essential plan, the widget will continue showing your up-to-date availability, but you'll no longer have access to the Booking Widget settings in your SimplePractice account.

If you previously published the Booking Widget on your external website and you select the Starter plan, you’ll want to remove the code so your clients won’t encounter an error message when they access this page. This feature will no longer work as Online Appointment Requests are not available on the Starter plan. Please also keep in mind that our Customer Success team can only help troubleshoot SimplePractice products. We recommend reaching out to your website provider’s support team if you need assistance removing this code.


What happens to custom templates I've created if I downgrade to Starter?

If you're moving to the Starter plan, any custom progress note templates and templates from the Template Library will no longer be available for you to use. 

Any saved notes created from a custom template in a client’s chart will remain accessible in your account and will not be affected by changing your subscription plan. However, if the Starter plan is selected, the Load Previous Note feature will only work for progress notes created with the Simple progress note template. On this plan, this feature will not be available for notes created with a custom note template. 

If you decide to switch from the Starter Plan back to the Essential or Plus Plan, any previously saved progress note templates will become accessible to you again.
